Road to Space Biology: SEDS Edition

T

During the morning of Thursday, October 8, 2020, the fourth activity of the week of synthetic biology, "Road to Space Biology: SEDS Edition", took place via ZOOM.

This conference took the form of a collaboration with another research group from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez, they are the Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (SEDS-UPRM). The Space Biology research branch of their organization brought the perspective of how Synthetic Biology is not a static field, but an interdisciplinary one, and one being in constant progression. They showed their project which incorporates topics in physics, astronomy and engineering. They presented the audience how synthetic biology can impact both their ongoing research project and how it can impact the progress of extraterrestrial biotechnology & space biology research holistically.

High school & undergraduate students from all over the island and its institutions actively participated in this conference. They learned that science as an interdisciplinary tool is much stronger for the scientific development in Puerto Rico
